Beef management calendars
Beef integrated resource management calendars are free at the LaRue County Extension office. These multipurpose calendars cover Jan. 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015, and each month contains suggested management practices for spring calving herds, fall calving herds, for all cattle, forages, the environment, recording keeping and management. Due dates are listed for days during recommended breeding seasons and a gestation table for all dates is included. Drop by the Extension office for a copy.
Private pesticide applicator training
The LaRue County Extension office will conduct private pesticide applicator training at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30. The office is located at 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville. The two-hour training is for farmers whose certification to purchase and apply restricted use pesticides has expired, and for new producers who need the certification but have not been trained. The training session will qualify attendees as a certified private pesticide applicator until Dec. 31, 2017. Call the Extension office at 270-358-3401 for more information.
Extension Council meeting
The LaRue County Extension Council will meet at noon Feb. 4 at the LaRue County Extension office. A meal will be served. All members and interested individuals are encouraged to attend.
Vegetable Gardening 101
A vegetable gardening class, part of the Gardener’s Toolbox Series, will be held 6 p.m. Feb. 4 or April 15 at Hardin County Extension Service, 201 Peterson Dr., Elizabethtown. This class will get you started on your first vegetable garden, cover gardening in containers, square foot gardening and how to plan a garden for yourself and your family. Cost is $5. Master Stocker program offered
A beef master stocker educational program will be offered by the LaRue County Extension office. There are eight two-hour sessions which will cover health, nutrition, forages, marketing, feeder cattle type, environmental interactions and livestock handling. Sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 and will be offered on first and third Thursdays through May. The program will be offered via Lync, a video-audio interactive link of the program from another location. There is no registration fee, but registration is needed as soon as possible so accompanying handouts can be ordered. Call the Extension office at 270-358-3401 for more information.
Beginning Organic Methods for Home Vegetable Growers
A “beginning organic methods for home vegetable growers” class, part of the Gardener’s Toolbox Series, will be 6 p.m. Feb. 20 at Hardin County Extension Service, 201 Peterson Dr., Elizabethtown. This will cover the theories and strategies of becoming a home organic vegetable grower. Cost is $5. For more information, call 270-765-4121.

Dead animal pickup
For dead animal pickup, call Bluegrass Recycling at 888-744-1186. The cost is $87.50 and the LaRue County Conservation District will reimburse the landowner with receipt. For more information, call the Conservation District office at 270-358-3132.
