Farmers Market

The LaRue County Farmers Market will be set up from noon to 6 p.m. July 24 and 31, at 2533 Lincoln Farm Road, Hodgenville (beside Lincoln Jamboree). Several new vendors have been participating and meal options are available. For more information, call the Extension office at 270-358-3401.

 

Farm Service Agency County Committee nomination

Aug. 1 is the deadline for local FSA county committee nominations. FSA county committees work closely with county executive directors and make decisions on disaster and conservation programs, emergency programs, commodity price support loan programs and other agricultural issues. Members serve three-year terms.

To be eligible to serve on an FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area where the person is nominated. Nominations forms are available at www.fsa.usda.gov/elections.

 

State Fair entries

The Kentucky State Fair will be Aug. 14-24 and entry deadlines are near. Open show livestock may enter by paying a double entry fee, but no open livestock entries will be accepted after July 25). Most entries can be made online at www.kystatefair.org. The premium list and general rules can be viewed by exhibitor’s department, and entry forms can be obtained, at the KSF website. The Extension office also has a paper copy of the catalog.

 

No-till drills

The LaRue County Conservation District has three no-till drills available for rent.For more information, call 270-358-3132. The office is located in the LaRue County Farm Bureau Building, 606 N. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville.

 

FUNDS EXHAUSTED for dead animal pickup

The LaRue County Conservation District annually secures an environmental grant to reimburse LaRue County producers for dead animal pickup. For this fiscal year, those grant monies have been exhausted. All reimbursements will be postponed until additional grant funds are available. Landowners are encouraged to bring or mail dead animal pickup receipts to the District office. Receipts received will be kept on file, and checks mailed out as soon as funds are available.
