 Kentucky Alfalfa Conference 

The 33rd annual Kentucky Alfalfa Conference will begin at 9 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Fayette County Extension office in Lexington. Topics include grazing alfalfa, harvesting alfalfa as baleage, growing Roundup-ready alfalfa, fertilizer cost per bale, alfalfa for horse owners and finishing beef on alfalfa. A $15 registration fee, payable at the door, includes sessions, refreshments and lunch.


Private pesticide applicator training

The LaRue County County Extension Service will conduct private pesticide applicator training at 10 a.m. Feb. 26. The two-hour session will qualify attendees as certified private pesticide applicators until Dec. 31, 2016. Call the Extension office at 358-3401.


Bacon Creek Watershed Council to meet

The Bacon Creek Watershed Council will meet 6 p.m. (central time) Feb. 25 at Bonnieville City Hall, 7775 N. Dixie Hwy., Bonnieville. Kristy Nowak from the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Wetland and Stream Mitigation Program will discuss the program, requirements for participation and possibilities for projects in the Bacon Creek Watershed. FSA Conservation Loans available

 Funds are available for Guaranteed Conservation Loans. Conservation loans allow farmers and ranchers to implement conservation practices on their land that will help protect natural resources.

Applicants who do not already have a conservation plan approved by NRCS should work with their local NRCS staff to develop a plan.

Dead animal pickup

For dead animal pickup, call Bluegrass Recycling at (888) 744-1186. Cost is $87.50. The LaRue County Conservation District will reimburse the landowner 75 percent of the cost.
