Pork Producers to meet

The LaRue County Pork Association will meet 7 p.m. July 19 at the LaRue County Extension Service office. A meal will be served. All interested individuals are invited to attend.

Goat and Sheep Producers to meet

LaRue County Goat and Sheep Producers will meet 7:30 p.m. July 20 at the LaRue County Extension Service office. This year’s LaRue County Fair Goat and Sheep Shows will be discussed. All interested individuals are invited.

State Fair entry deadlines

The deadlines for entries to the 2010 Kentucky State Fair are near. The fair will be Aug. 19-29, but entry deadlines are as follows. Open Show livestock may enter by paying a double entry fee, but no open livestock entries will be accepted after July 24. Rabbit entries must be postmarked by July 17. Most entries can be made online at the Kentucky State Fair website www.kystatefair.org. The Premium List and General Rules also can be viewed by Exhibitors Department; entry forms can be obtained at www.kystatefair.org.

FSA loans

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared 15 counties including LaRue County eligible for agriculture emergency assistance for damage caused by the storms that hit the area May 1. For more information, contact Kentucky’s Farm Service Agency office at (859) 224-7601 or visit FSA’s website at www.fsa.usda.gov.

FSA elections

The U.S. Farm Service Agency is accepting nominations of farmers and ranchers for county committees. Nominations must be postmarked or received in a local U.S. Department of Agriculture Service Center by Aug. 2. FSA will mail ballots to eligible voters on Nov. 5. Ballots will be due back to the county office by Dec. 6. Newly elected committee members and alternates will take office Jan. 1. Dead animal pick-up

If you have a dead animal that needs to be removed from your land, call Griffin Industries (1-800-452-3092) or DAR, Inc. (1-888-744-1186). Then take your receipt to the LaRue County Conservation District, 606A N. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and qualified producers will be reimbursed 75 percent of the receipt. This offer is retroactive to July 1, 2009.
