Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker died suddenly Friday morning from a heart attack brought on by a cardiovascular disease, said Chief Deputy Hardin County Coroner Kenneth Spangenberger.
Spangenberger pronounced Walker dead at 5:33 a.m. Friday at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was 54.
The coroner's office was concerned Walker's recent weight loss may have been a complication in his death, but Spangenberger ruled it out Friday after an autopsy was performed. Friends and co-workers said Walker had lost around 40 pounds in recent months and was focused on living a healthier lifestyle.
Asked if the heart disease had been detected or diagnosed prior to Walker's death, Spangenberger referred to it as a "silent killer."
According to Spangenberger, Walker was an advocate of organ donation and an organ donor himself, which he said will benefit others.
"Sometimes good comes out of bad," he said.
