Performance also planned for Japanese School

By The Staff

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College is hosting a Japanese koto concert by Tomoko at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the college’s Science Auditorium.

Japan’s national instrument, the koto is rich in creative sound and rhythmic, lilting melodies. Tomoko seems to bring the soul of Japan from this unique instrument when she performs. She began studying the Koto at five-years-old and was conferred full mastership at age 16. Tomoko has studied with some of the koto’s great artists, including Yoriko Saito of the Ikuta group and contemporary koto artist, Masayo Ishigure in New York. She has performed in New York, Connecticut and now Kentucky, where she resides.

Tomoko also will perform on Saturday, April 25, for the ECTC Japanese school.

The concert is sponsored by ECTC’s Multicultural and Fine Arts Committees.
