Montana Metcalf, a senior at LaRue County High School, will represent the county in January at the Distinguished Young Women of Kentucky contest – formerly called Junior Miss.
Metcalf, the daughter of Greg Metcalf and Melissa Metcalf, performed a gymnastics routine for the talent portion of the program. She was judged also on self-expression, fitness, interview and scholastic achievement. She won a $1,000 scholarship.
Metcalf is the second young woman to wear the title. Last year, Bridgette Skaggs competed in the At-Large program. This year, the LaRue County contestants competed with Nelson County teens.
Emillee Cundiff, the daughter of Jennifer and Rocky Cundiff, also competed.
Denise Skaggs, program coordinator for LaRue County, said she is “very proud of both of our girls.”
“They did an excellent job representing LaRue County,” said Skaggs. “They have grown so much over the summer in developing their public speaking skills in preparing for this program, and I know this will help them as they pursue their college and career goals. This program is a stepping-stone for LaRue County, and I hope more girls will consider participating in the program next year. We will have a parent meeting in October to get an idea of how many girls are interested. We will then look at a timeline for hosting our own program, possibly May or early June depending on everyone’s schedules with extracurricular activities.
