After nearly 20 years of working at Magnolia’s Family Care Center, Dr. Steven Preston is ready for a change.
Preston, who worked at the Mill Road clinic since the mid-1990s, left the practice earlier this month, according to Michelle Murphy, director of marketing and public relations for Hardin Memorial Hospital, owner of the clinic.
But he isn’t going far. He will begin practice at the Hodgenville Clinic with Dr. Glenn Catlett on July 1.
The Hodgenville Clinic has “historically” had two doctors, said Catlett. He has been working alone since Dr. Khue Tran left the practice four years ago, although there have been nurse practitioners at the clinic in the interim.
Catlett said he and his staff are “very excited” to have Preston at the clinic.
“It’s a big help for the community,” he said. “And a big help for the clinic.”
Preston, a New York City native, said retirement or relocation was not an option for him.
“I’ve got too much invested in this community,” he said, adding his wife, Carla, a teacher with LaRue County Schools, family and friends are here.
He would never consider returning to NYC, he added.
“People who were born and raised here can’t appreciate how good they have it here .... The lifestyle here is infinitely richer on many levels.”
His patients have continued to offer support after hearing he had left the Magnolia clinic. He said he is “deeply flattered and deeply sorry for any inconvenience” that may have been caused by his departure.
“I regret I couldn’t continue my journey with HMH,” he said. “But I appreciate the opportunity from them to come to this area.”
