Magnolia soon will be home to a Dollar General Store.

Construction on the 9,026-square-feet building started two weeks ago, according to Emily Weiss, media relations manager for the company.

The store is at 8727 New Jackson Highway near Magnolia Stop N Shop and will employ six to 10 people.

S.C. Development of Jackson, Tenn. is the general contractor.

Weiss said the store “will feature a fresh layout that makes shopping simple for customers. Some of its highlights include seasonal products featured in the center of the store, coolers at the front of the store and easily recognizable departments with visible signage.”

Dollar General, based in Goodlettsville, Tenn., is the nation's largest small-box discount retailer. It offers customers “brands and products they use most in a small, easy-to-shop store.”

Dollar General has more than 8,800 stores in 35 states. Besides the long-established retailer in Hodgenville, there are stores in Upton, Sonora and New Haven.

Weiss said she isn’t sure when the store will open.
