Dinky Gowen will present his annual Kid's Day Christmas Spectacular on Sunday.
The free event will be held at LaRue County Parks and Recreation and begins at 2 p.m. It offers two hours of magic, ventriloquism, comedy, face painting and generous door prizes.
Elvis impersonator Joseph Williams is new to the show this year with a performance that is "sure to rock the house," Gowen said.
T.V. personality Paul Emmick, the meteorologist for Fox 41, will be emcee. Emmick worked with The Weather Channel for several years and enjoys performing magic, juggling, travel and scuba diving.
“I am really looking forward to this show,” Emmick said in an e-mail. “Dinky is so proud of his county and really loves to entertain everyone when he gets the chance. I think it is great that he came up with the idea of having a free live entertainment event during the holidays.”
Emmick said he has performed with Gowen and his team several times.
“He really is known in the magic community as a highly creative performer. I always look forward to working on stage with him…. He amazes me at the sheer number of shows he does in the course of the year and just how much of the country he covers. He travels all over the country but I still think he receives the most enjoyment performing in front of his family and friends at a great free event like this.”
The highlight of the show will be a visit from the Jolly Old Elf.
"There will be many costume characters there to meet and greet the young and the young at heart," said Gowen, "including the "man" himself ... Santa Clause."
Gowen gave his first performance at age 11. He now travels the country, performing in about 600 magic shows each year.
It’s the 17th year he has provided the free magic show to LaRue County.
