For the last few years, my rather large family has gathered at Dad’s house just before Halloween for an annual family pumpkin carving contest.
Filled with good-natured competition between siblings, nephews and nieces, as we crowd around an old picnic table and make a huge mess, this makes for a really fun afternoon. Pumpkin guts fly everywhere.
There’s a fire pit, some hot chocolate or cider, some type of chili or gumbo, and touch football.
