Deadline for summer youth employment program extended

The application deadline for the GEL-IN Summer Youth Employment Program has been extended to Friday, June 5. GEL-IN, administered by the Lincoln Trail Workforce Investment Board, focuses on green initiatives, entrepreneurial spirit and leadership. Young people ages 16 to 24 and Workforce Investment Act eligible are encouraged to apply. The project start date is June 22 and will run through July 31.

Participants will be paid $7.25 per hour for their work.  

GEL-IN will encourage young people to think outside the box with a hands-on approach that encourages new ideas for doing business or providing programs and services. Participants will learn leadership qualities, how to start a business, and computer and Internet skills. They will work in teams and compete against other groups for the chance to win a laptop. Individuals will be evaluated for work readiness upon completion of the program.

The program will include 20-25 young people from each of the eight counties in the Lincoln Trail Workforce Investment Area which includes LaRue. Participants must meet economically disadvantaged criteria and priority will be given to those most in need. Visit www.ltcareercenter.org for more information on eligibility requirements.
