David Lee Miller, born Jan. 15, 1933, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Feb. 7, 2012, under hospice care at his home in Louisville, Ky.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Miller; his brothers, Charles (Brenda) and Leonard; his sister, Ann; his children, Greg Miller, Gary Lee (BethAmy) Miller, and Cheryl Denise (Michael) Lewis; and two grandsons, Isaiah Miller and Paquin Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Virgil and Nettie Brown Miller, and his brother Otis Miller.
David worked as a real estate appraiser for the Harry Lewman Company of Louisville (1963-1989), becoming founding owner and manager of the Lewman-Miller Appraisal Company (1989-2012); he received his MAI, the highest designation within the appraisal industry. David served as deacon at South Fork Baptist Church in LaRue County and First Baptist Church of Hodgenville and, after moving to Louisville, was a member with his wife Barbara of Broadway Baptist Church. A former president of the Lion’s Club of Hodgenville and of Kentucky Chapter 31 of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, David was a leader in civic organizations and business; he was a member of the Saint Matthew’s Small Business Association and a Kentucky Colonel, and was elected to office in the Louisville Chapter of SRA (the Society of Real Estate Appraisers) as treasurer, vice president, and president.
David’s burial will be in South Fork Baptist Church’s cemetery, near his parents and several generations of Millers and Browns. One of David’s favorite fishing holes is at the base of the bluff beside that cemetery in the South Fork of the Nolin River, where he, his father, siblings, children, grandchildren and friends often went fishing. Like his father, David was an avid fisherman, angling for fish wherever they were to be caught: in creeks, ponds, rivers, lakes or the ocean. He fished for stripers at Lake Cumberland with his sons and son-in-law, went creek and river fishing with his two grandsons, and deep-sea fishing in Florida; he also went on family eagle-watches in the Land Between the Lakes; in his own backyard, he enjoyed watching and counting cardinals, red-headed woodpeckers, nuthatches and all variety of birds. David was a steady, kind man who loved the world, its people and creatures, and who leaves behind a wake of love. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Kosair Children’s Hospital or the Youth Ministry of Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 at Broadway Baptist Church 4000 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, Ky. with Dr. Chris Caldwell and Dr. Lloyd Storment officiating.
Visitation will be later that day from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville. There will be a private graveside service Saturday at South Fork Cemetery in LaRue County.
