Cruse named school board chairman

Sam Sanders recalls accomplishments while honoring board members

Ronnie Chelf ended his term as chairman at the Jan. 19 school board meeting and handed over the title to Anita Cruse. Price Smith was elected vice chair of the board.

Superintendent Sam Sanders presented certificates to each board member for their service in correlation with School Board Appreciation Month. He thanked the board members for their service and recognized their being instrumental in completing and implementing numerous projects over the last several years, including SAM project, LaRue County Reads, Excel Award and Campbellsville University’s Excellence in Teaching awards, Distinguished Alumni, excellent salary schedule for teachers, meeting all No Child Left Behind goals the last three years, moving up from 101st to 57th on the state assessment, building a new school, renovation of windows and HVAC at LCMS, additions of the synthetic running track and tennis courts, as well as numerous others.

In other business, the board:

•Approved the extension of the superintendent’s term through June 30, 2014, with board member Norbert Skees voting no.

•Unanimously approved extending the deed closure date for the Buffalo Elementary School property to AU Associates to April 30, 2010.
