The LaRue County High School cross country team fared well in its first competition of the season with the boys' and girls' teams winning the 3k race.

“All of the runners did well. This was the first race of the season and many of the runners had never run before in a 3k or 5k,” Coach Josh Henderson said. “As a whole, we did extremely well.”

Henderson singled out newcomer Michelle Seymour and veteran Amarah Reed for praise.

“Aliesha Durbin also ran strong since it was her first race of her career,” he said.

In the girls' 5k race, Seymour placed third with a time of 17:02, Reed was fourth with a time of 17:27 and Durbin placed 17th with a time of 21:31.

LaRue swept the girls 3k race with Kristina Durbin winning in a time of 10:32, Sydney Price placing second in 10:49 and Amanda Adyani finishing third in 10:56.  In addition, Anna Claire Gribbins finished seventh with a time of 15:23 and Chloe Sandidge at eighth with a time of 16:37.

“I was also proud of all of the girl runners in the middle school race,” Henderson added.

Kristina Durbin won the middle school competition while newcomers Adyani, Gribbins, Price and Sandidge had strong finishes as well.

Boys

In the 5k, Ryan Durbin led the boys with a second place finish with a time of 13:28. Truman Padgett placed 10th with a time of 14:45 while Eddy Mitchell placed 14th with a time of 15:16 and Alex Wood placed 15th with a time of 15:37.

In the 3k, Adam Sandidge led the way with a first place finish in 8:49. Matthew Mullins placed sixth with a time of 11:26 while Dillon Grimes placed eighth with a time of 12:02. Dylan Mullins finished ninth with a time of 12:13.

“In the boys' middle school race, Adam Sandidge ran very well and won the race,” said Henderson. “Newcomers Dillon Grimes, Matthew Mullins, and Dylan Mullins ran very well. I was very proud of the boy’s varsity runners. As a team, we came in second which signals a good start for the season. Ryan Durbin finished second with a great time. He is only going to get better throughout the season. Also, I was proud of Truman Padgett, Alex Wood, Spencer Reed, Christian Mullins, Eddy Mitchell and Blake Heibert.”

LaRue County’s next meet is Sept. 10 at the Marion County All Comers Meet.
