A LaRue County man returned home after work Tuesday night to find his parents trapped underneath a vehicle.
According to LaRue County Sheriff Merle Edlin, John Muir, 56, and Chong Muir, 71, were found dead around 7:30 p.m. at their Munfordville Road home in the Tanner community
The couple was working underneath a Chevrolet Impala when it apparently fell and trapped them, he said. They had changed the oil in the car and may have been working on the brakes when the car slipped from a brace.
Edlin believes the car fell first on John Muir and his wife was able to raise it. It fell again when she crawled under it.
Firefighters used air bags to raise the vehicle off the couple. They were holding hands, Edlin said.
Deputy Coroner Wesley Warren said the cause of death is asphyxia. Preliminary investigation indicates they had been dead several hours when they were found.
The LaRue County Sheriff's Office is investigating in conjunction with the LaRue County Coroner's Office.
Arrangements are pending at Rust-Wright Funeral Home.
