City officers and first responders who worked with Officer Mark Taulbee, who died Sept. 23 after a car crash, will be offered counseling services.

Taulbee, 43, was in pursuit of a subject when he crashed his cruiser on Campbellsville Road. The suspect, Jason Avis, did not stop but later turned himself in.

Taulbee’s funeral was Friday at the Hodgenville Civic Center.

Police Chief Steve Johnson said Taulbee’s co-workers, the flight nurse who cared for Taulbee during transport and a 15-year-old who stayed with the fallen officer after the wreck until first responders arrived, could meet with counselors from Kentucky Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors.

Johnson said the department, now shorthanded since Taulbee’s death, is pulling together. The four officers are covering the city and are planning how to handle the crowds during the Oct. 6-7 Lincoln Days Celebration.
