A LaRue County Constable was charged Monday afternoon with theft by deception and first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot.

Kentucky State Police attempted to serve a Hardin County warrant for cold checks on Jeffery W. Metcalf, 40, at his White City Road residence in Hodgenville about 1 p.m.

According to a news release, Metcalf’s girlfriend met the officers at the door. During the conversation, Metcalf “fled from the residence into the woods behind the house. Metcalf was later discovered in the woods where he was arrested without further incident.”

He was arrested just before 2 p.m. and lodged in the LaRue County Detention Center. He was released a few hours later on a cash bond.

KSP was assisted by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers and the investigation is ongoing.

Metcalf was elected to his first term as constable in 2010.
