 LaRue County Reads

Volunteer to tutor a child in reading for as little as one-half hour each week at one of the local schools through LaRue County Reads. Volunteers must attend a short training class. The next training will be 9 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Board of Education. Training will last about one hour. Democratic Woman’s Club to meet

The LaRue County Democratic Woman’s Club will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 27 in the small courtroom at the Courthouse. We have projects underway to discuss and will have a report on the Democratic convention by delegate Phinis Hundley. Refreshments will be served.


Prescription drug take-back 

LaRue County Waste Management and the LaRue County Sheriff’s Office is holding prescription drug take-back day 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 29 in the lower parking lot of the LaRue County Courthouse for unneeded or outdated prescription drugs. For more information, call 358-9903.


Free admission to Lincoln Museum

The Lincoln Museum and several other museums in Kentucky will offer free admission on Sept. 29. Museum-goers can download free tickets on the Smithsonian website, which grants free admission for two people.  For a list of participating museums and to download tickets, visit Smithsonian.com/museumdaylive. 


Lincoln Days opening reception

Gold Vault Patriots meet

Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1051, The Gold Vault Patriots, will meet 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Nolin RECC conference room, 411 Ring Road, Elizabethtown. Open to all men and women veterans who served during Vietnam and Vietnam era  (August 1964 to May 1975) are invited to attend. Bring DD 214 copy and $20 for membership dues. Button Bracelet Class

Rosa Smith, master clothing volunteer, will teach a button bracelet class at 10 a.m. Oct. 3 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Cost is $5. Call 358-3401 for a supply list.


Youth piggy bank contest

A youth piggy bank design contest is being sponsored by the LaRue County Cooperative Extension Service. Banks should not exceed 1-foot square in size and be able to hold coins. For all contest rules, stop by the Extension Office for a flyer; banks are due to the office by Nov. 30. County winner will go on to district contest and be eligible for $250 prize.


Quilts wanted for Lincoln Days Quilt Show

Beverly Heath will accept entries for the Lincoln Days Quilt Show 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 at Hodgenville Christian Church. Viewing is Oct. 6-7. For more information, call Heath at 358-2147. Participants may display one or more quilts but an application is needed for each one. Applications may be downloaded at www.lincolndays.org. No registration fee. 


Blood drive at Woman’s Club

A blood drive will be noon-5 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Hodgenville Woman’s Club, 19 Lincoln Square, Hodgenville.


FREE WORKSHOP: Starting a business

The LaRue County Public Library, 201 S. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville, will hold a free workshop “Essentials to start a business” at 5 p.m. Oct. 11. For more information, call 358-3851.


Wellness on Wheels

Hardin Memorial Hospital’s Wellness on Wheels mobile health unit will be available 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Hometown IGA. No charge for blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass index, body fat analysis and weight. Osteoporosis bone density heel screening is $20; cholesterol panel is $20. Courthouse annex to be closed

The LaRue County Courthouse Annex will be closed Oct. 15 as state-mandated furlough day. All Circuit Clerk services, including renewal of driver licenses, will be unavailable. County offices in the main courthouse will be open. 


Chamber luncheon

The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce luncheon is noon-1 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Lincoln Museum Community Room. The speaker is Mike Harmon. Cost is $8; reservation due by noon, Oct. 16.


County Recycling Day

County Recycling Day is 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 20 at the county maintenance facility across from LaRue County High School. No charge to drop off any scrap metal, appliances, electronics, printer and toner cartridges, vehicle batteries and rechargeable batteries. Tire disposal fee is $1.50 for passenger; $6 for semis; $1 per inch for agriculture equipment tires. For more information, contact Jill Gray at 358-9903.



The Goodtime Cruisers will have their final classic car cruise-in 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20 on Lincoln Square.


Open Sew Day

Campbellsville University will bring a production of the musical “Hairspray” to the Hodgenville Civic Center 7 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27 and 3 p.m. Oct. 28.



Trick-or-Treat on the Square and within city limits will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
