 Absentee voting

An absentee voting machine is available through Nov. 5 in the County Clerk’s office for those who will be out of town on Election Day Nov. 6. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

Trick-or-Treat on the Square and costume contest

Trick-or-Treat on the Square and costume contest is 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 in downtown Hodgenville. Pre-register children for contest by picking up a form at the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce on Lincoln Square or The LaRue County Herald News, 40 Shawnee Dr., Hodgenville. Early registration is $3. The entry fee is $5 on day of event. Each participant will need to be on the square by 5:15 p.m.; judging begins at 5:30 p.m. The annual event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

 

Trick-or-Treat 

Trick-or-Treat will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 in both city and county. 

 

DAV Mobile Service Office in E’town

The Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office will be in Elizabethtown 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Employment Office, 916 N. Mulberry St., to provide free counseling and claim filing assistance to all veterans and members of their families. For more information, contact NSO Randy A. Bunting at (502) 566-4482.

 

Ancestral Trails to meet

Ancestral Trails Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Hardin County Public Library. Beverly Heath will discuss when LaRue County went dry, alcohol in a dry county and moonshine.

 

Daylight Saving Time

Move clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. Nov. 4 due to Daylight Saving Time.

 

Election Day

Election Day is Nov. 6. Polls are open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Heating assistance

The first day to apply for heating assistance at Central Kentucky Community Action, 120 Greensburg St., Hodgenville is Nov. 5. Bring your most recent electric or natural gas bill, proof of income for the entire family for the previous month and social security cards and birth dates for all in household. All applicants must verify their address with an electric, natural gas or water bill. New applicants must show a picture ID. For more information, call 358-3937.

 

AARP Driver Safety Course - Nov. 9

Bob Geiger, AARP certified instructor, is offering a driver safety course class at the LaRue County Extension Office 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 9. The class is for ages 50 and older. The fee is $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members. In November, all veterans and their families can take the course for free.

In Kentucky, those 55 and older having a certificate from attending this class can get a discount on their auto insurance for a minimum of three years. 

The class includes four hours of instruction time and will give participants a break for lunch on their own. Contact the Extension Office to register (358-3401). Class size is limited. Bring driver’s license and AARP card to class. Payment by check will be given to the instructor at class.
