 Youth Service Center Advisory Council to meet

FREE WORKSHOP: Internet for Beginners

A free workshop “Internet for Beginners” will be 5 p.m. Nov. 8 at the LaRue County Public Library, 201 S. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville. Pre-register by calling 358-3851 or emailing info@laruelibrary.org.

 

Children’s programs at library

The LaRue County Public Library will offer toddler tales at 10 a.m. Nov. 9, 16 and 30; storytime at 6 p.m. Nov. 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27; Kidz Club at 1-2 p.m. Nov. 10 and 24; and Anime Club 3:30 p.m. Nov. 13, 20 and 27. For more information, call Katie or Liz at 358-3851.

       

Heating assistance

Apply for heating assistance at Central Kentucky Community Action, 120 Greensburg St., Hodgenville. Bring your most recent electric or natural gas bill, proof of income for the entire family for the previous month and social security cards and birth dates for all in household. All applicants must verify their address with an electric, natural gas or water bill. New applicants must show a picture ID. For more information, call 358-3937.

 

AARP Driver Safety Course - Nov. 9

Bob Geiger, AARP certified instructor, is offering a driver safety course class at the LaRue County Extension Office 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 9. The class is for ages 50 and older. The fee is $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members. In November, all veterans and their families can take the course for free.

In Kentucky, those 55 and older having a certificate from attending this class can get a discount on their auto insurance for a minimum of three years. 

The class includes four hours of instruction time and will give participants a break for lunch on their own. Contact the Extension Office to register (358-3401). Class size is limited. Bring driver’s license and AARP card to class. Payment by check will be given to the instructor at class.

 

Flaget Primary Care open house

The Flaget Primary Care Associates office, 908 S. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville will hold an open house at 2 p.m. Nov. 9. The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting. The open house will feature a chance to meet Flaget Hospital╒s newest physician, Melanie Mooney, M.D., tour the building and enjoy refreshments. Call 348-8914 for more information.

 

Veteran’s Day ceremony

A Veteran’s Day parade and ceremony will be 2 p.m. Nov. 11 in Hodgenville. Pick up entry forms at The LaRue County Herald News, City Hall or the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce. Lineup is beside Creekfront Park by 1:45 p.m. Program immediately follows parade; refreshments served. Serger class

Master Clothing Volunteer Rosa Smith will offer serger sewing machine classes at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12, Dec. 10 and Jan. 14 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Students can observe to see if they want to invest in a serger or to learn more about how to use it. For more information, call Smith at 358-9049.

Wellness on Wheels

Hardin Memorial Hospital’s Wellness on Wheels mobile health unit will be available 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Hometown IGA. No charge for blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass index, body fat analysis and weight. Osteoporosis bone density heel screening is $20; cholesterol panel is $20. Blood drive at Sonora

First Baptist Church, 709 Main St., Sonora, will have a blood drive 3-7 p.m. Nov. 20.

 

Vietnam Veterans of America to meet

Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1051, The Gold Vault Patriots, will meet 2 p.m. Nov. 25 at Nolin RECC conference room, 411 Ring Road, Elizabethtown. Membership is open to all. Vietnam and Vietnam era veterans (August 1964-May 1975) are invited to attend. Bring DD 214 copy and $20 for membership dues.
