Poinsettia drawing at library
The LaRue County Public Library is holding a reading incentive during December by giving away a poinsettia each week. For every book you read, you can complete a ticket to have your name put in for the drawing. The more books you read, the more chances you have for winning. Drawings will be held each Friday.
Pajama Drive at LaRue County Middle School
LaRue County Middle School is holding a pajama drive through Dec. 14. Bring pajamas for ages newborn through adult to the LCMS front office lobby. Pajamas must be new and a complete set – either a top and bottom, onesie or appropriate nightgown. Donated pajamas will be distributed to local children in need and those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Churches, banks, businesses and individuals are invited to participate with students. Monetary donations are appreciated. Checks can be made out to LCMS and dropped off or mailed to 911 S. Chamber of Commerce luncheon
The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be noon Nov. 28.
FREE WORKSHOP: Introduction to Excel
A free workshop, Introduction to Excel, will be 5 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Brockman Center, Campbellsville University – Hodgenville Campus, Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville, at 5 p.m. Nov. 29. AARP Driver Safety Course
An AARP driver safety course will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 30 at the LaRue County Extension Office. The four-hour class doesn’t involve a road or written test. After class, drivers age 55 and older may be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance. Cost is $12 for AARP members or $14 for non-members. All veterans can take this class for free. Christmas on the Square – Dec. 1
Festivities and caroling on Lincoln Square in Hodgenville will begin about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Lighting up the Square and Creekfront Park will be about 6 p.m. Santa will arrive in Hodgenville City Hall about 6 p.m. He will visit with children about an hour. Area churches will present a live nativity at 7 p.m. at the Hodgenville Civic Center.
Holiday Home Tour
The Hodgenville Woman’s Club will hold a Holiday Home Tour 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1. A tasting party will be held at the clubhouse on Lincoln Square from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund
Tickets for the annual Kelly Dean Sanders Memorial Fund luncheon are on sale at the LaRue County Board of Education. The luncheon is noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at the LaRue County Middle School cafeteria. A luncheon and musical entertainment are available for $10. This worthy cause has helped hundreds of needy families purchase school clothes for their children for the last 40 years. A limited number of tickets will be for sale at the door but advanced ticket sales allow more efficient meal planning. Call Sarah Hornback at 358-4111 for more information.
New Haven Christmas parade
The New Haven Christmas parade is 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. The theme is “A Storybook Christmas.” The best float will be awarded $500.
HOSPICE: Coping with grief through the holidays
The heaviness of grief can feel more painful during the holidays. Attend a special free gathering at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 led by a Hospice of Nelson County social worker and chaplain who will offer support and coping skills. Compassionate Friends candle lighting
The Central Kentucky Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will have a candlelight service 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Kid-Wise Building (adjacent to Miller Park), 195 City Park Road, Campbellsville for parents who have lost children. There will be a memory table, readings and and reading of children’s names. Parents can bring mementos to share and an ornament for the memorial tree in Miller Park. The Hodgenville Woman’s Club will host a blood drive noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Clubhouse on Lincoln Square.
Master Clothing Volunteer Rosa Smith will offer serger sewing machine classes at 10 a.m. on Dec. 10 and Jan. 14 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Students can observe to see if they want to invest in a serger or to learn more about how to use it. For more information, call Smith at 358-9049.
Dinky’s Magic Christmas Show and party
Dinky Gowen’s annual kid’s Christmas party and magic show is 3-5 p.m. Dec. 16 at LaRue County Park and Recreation. Lots of magic, costumed characters and Elvis presenter Caleb Brown. No charge to attend.
