Free food thermometers are available while supplies last at the Extension Office, 807 Old E’town Road, Hodgenville. Also available is a guide that can be placed on the refrigerator to offer reminders of the USDA recommended safe minimum internal temperatures for different types of meat.

Vietnam Veterans of America to meet

Christmas on the Square – Dec. 1
Festivities and caroling on Lincoln Square in Hodgenville will begin about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Lighting up the Square and Creekfront Park will be about 6 p.m. Santa will arrive in Hodgenville City Hall about 6 p.m. He will visit with children about an hour. Area churches will present a live nativity at 7 p.m. at the Hodgenville Civic Center.
Holiday Home Tour
The Hodgenville Woman’s Club will hold a Holiday Home Tour 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1. A tasting party will be held at the clubhouse on Lincoln Square from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
New Haven parade planned for Dec. 2
The New Haven Christmas parade is 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. The theme is “A Storybook Christmas.” The best float will be awarded $500.

Coping with grief through the holidays
The heaviness of grief can feel more painful during the holidays. Attend a special free gathering at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 led by a Hospice of Nelson County social worker and chaplain who will offer support and coping skills. The location is the Hospice office at 202 W. Stephen Foster, Suite A (behind Medica Pharmacy). To register, call 350-5570.
Compassionate Friends candle lighting
The Central Kentucky Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will have a candlelight service 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Kid-Wise Building (adjacent to Miller Park), 195 City Park Road, Campbellsville, for parents who have lost children. There will be a memory table, readings and and reading of children’s names. Parents can bring mementos to share and an ornament for the memorial tree in Miller Park. The Hodgenville Woman’s Club will host a blood drive noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Clubhouse on Lincoln Square.
Heating assistance
Apply for heating assistance at Central Kentucky Community Action, 120 Greensburg St., Hodgenville. Bring your most recent electric or natural gas bill, proof of income for the entire family for the previous month and social security cards and birth dates for all in household. All applicants must verify their address with an electric, natural gas or water bill. New applicants must show a picture ID. To schedule an appointment, call 358-3937.
Serger class
Master Clothing Volunteer Rosa Smith will offer serger sewing machine classes at 10 a.m. on Dec. 10 and Jan. 14 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Students can observe to see if they want to invest in a serger or to learn more about how to use it. For more information, call Smith at 358-9049.
