Free books at library
The LaRue County Public Library has a wall of free books and VHS tapes. All items are free but a donation is appreciated. Bring a box or bags to carry items.
Guthrie announces office hours in LaRue
Congressman Brett Guthrie's staff will hold office hours 10-11 a.m. March 20 at the LaRue County Courthouse in the small courtroom, 209 West High St., Hodgenville. Guthrie’s staff will be available for all questions – policy or constituent services.
Chamber luncheon
The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce luncheon is noon March 20. Beth Cassidy, business liaison for Workforce Solutions of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, will speak. The topic is customer service for small business.
Small Business Development Center pre-business orientation
The UK Small Business Development Center in Elizabethtown will host a free pre-business orientation seminar, “Smart Start: Business Basics” 5-7 p.m. March 21 at the Hardin County Public Library, 100 Jim Owen Dr., Elizabethtown. Training will include the how-to’s of starting, feasibility and legal structure to licensing and permitting requirements. Call 270-765-6737 for more information.
County cleanup
County cleanup is noon to 4 p.m. March 22 and 8 a.m.-noon March 23 at the County Maintenance Facility across from LaRue County High School. No early birds. White goods, appliances, tires, scrap metal, vehicle batteries, e-scrap, furniture and bulky items will be accepted. For more information, call Jill Gray at 358-9903.
Karaoke and dancing
There will be karaoke and dancing 7-11 p.m. March 22 – and each following Friday night – at the old square dance building, 1524 Hodgenville Road, Elizabethtown. All ages welcome. Easter egg hunt at Fairgrounds
The LaRue County Fairgrounds on Greensburg Street, Hodgenville, will have an Easter egg hunt at noon on March 23. Games, prizes, children’s movie available. Easter egg hunt at Sunrise
Sunrise Manor will offer a community Easter egg hunt 1-2:30 p.m. March 23. For more information, contact Sally Rineker at 358-3103.
Seed and feed bags wanted
Empty seed or feed bags are wanted by Extension Nifty Needles sewing group. They will use the bags to make waterproof tote bags for the homeless. Bring bags to the Extension office on Open Sew Day, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 25. For more information, call Master Clothing Volunteer Rosa Smith at 358-9049.

The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce will be closed April 10.
Drug take-back
A drug take-back will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 13 in the lower parking lot of the LaRue County Courthouse. Outdated or unneeded prescription or over-the-counter drugs can be disposed of at the event, which is sponsored by the LaRue County Sheriff’s office, Solid Waste Management and Drug Task Force.
Ancestral Trails Book Fair
Ancestral Trails Historical Society will have a book fair 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. April 13 at the Pritchard Community Center, 404 S. Mulberry, Elizabethtown. A history jamboree with eight re-enactors and seven historical organizations, such as Fort Duffield, Civil War 9th Michigan Infantry, attending. No charge to attend. Wellness on Wheels
Hardin Memorial Hospital’s Wellness on Wheels mobile health unit will be available 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 15 at Hometown IGA in Hodgenville. No charge for blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass index, body fat analysis and weight. Osteoporosis bone density heel screening is $20; cholesterol panel is $20. Farmers market
The LaRue County Farmers Market will open May 4 at the LaRue County Extension office on Old E’town Road.

Relay for Life

Fair change
The LaRue County Fair Board has set the 2013 LaRue County Fair for June 14-22. A horse show will be June 14; dairy cattle show on June 15; and the carnival arrives June 17.
