Free books at library
The LaRue County Public Library has a wall of free books and VHS tapes. All items are free but a donation is appreciated. Bring a box or bags to carry items.
Library closed March 13
The LaRue County Public Library will be closed Wednesday, March 13, for staff training.
The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce will be closed March 13 and April 10.
Colon Cancer Awareness Fair
Flaget Cancer Center, 4359 New Shepherdsville Road, Bardstown, will have a Colon Cancer Awareness Fair noon to 3 p.m. March 14. Free health screenings and colon cancer screening kits, “giant walk-through colon,” refreshments and door prizes. For more information, call 1-502-350-5700.
FREE WORKSHOP: Windows Movie Maker
The LaRue County Public Library, 201 S. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville, will have a free workshop, “Windows Movie Maker” at 3:30 p.m. March 15. Pre-register at the library, call 358-3851 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Karaoke and dancing
There will be karaoke and dancing 6-10:30 p.m. March 15 – and each following Friday night – at the old square dance building, 1524 Hodgenville Road, Elizabethtown. All ages welcome. The Extension Expo is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 16 in the LaRue County High School gym. Booths are full. Call the LaRue County Extension office at 358-3401 for information.
Free Movie Night – Rise of the Guardians
“Rise of the Guardians” will be shown 7 p.m. March 16 at Hodgenville Civic Center, 200 S. Lincoln Blvd. No admission charged; free popcorn. The event is sponsored by the City of Hodgenville and The LaRue County Herald News.
Wellness on Wheels
Hardin Memorial Hospital’s Wellness on Wheels mobile health unit will be available 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 18 at Hometown IGA in Hodgenville. No charge for blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass index, body fat analysis, dermaview skin analysis and weight. Colorectal take-home kit is $5. Cholesterol panel is $20. Blood sugar testing
Free blood sugar testing will be provided 8:30-9:30 a.m. March 19 at the Flaget Immediate Care Clinic, KY 245, Bardstown. No appointment is necessary.
Hodgenville Woman’s Club
The Hodgenville Woman’s Club will meet 6:30 p.m. March 19 at the clubhouse on Lincoln Square. Roger McCurry, president of Koinonia Travel and Tours, will speak.
Blood drive in Sonora
A blood drive will be held 3-7 p.m. March 19 at First Baptist Church, 709 Main Street, Sonora. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
The LaRue County Republican Party will meet 7 p.m. March 19 at Greater Works Church (behind The Lincoln Museum) in Hodgenville.
The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce luncheon is noon March 20. Beth Cassidy, business liaison for Workforce Solutions of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, will speak. The topic is customer service for small business.
Small Business Development Center pre-business orientation
The UK Small Business Development Center in Elizabethtown will host a free pre-business orientation seminar, “Smart Start: Business Basics” 5-7 p.m. March 21 at the Hardin County Public Library, 100 Jim Owen Dr., Elizabethtown. Relay for Life Survivors Dinner
The LaRue County Relay for Life County Committee is sponsoring a free dinner to honor cancer survivors. The dinner is 6:30 p.m. March 21 at First Baptist Church Hodgenville, 730 Tonieville Road. Sister Rita Jerrell, a Hero of Hope from the Louisville area, will speak. Invitations have been mailed to known survivors; however, anyone who has survived or is battling cancer is welcome to attend. County cleanup is noon to 4 p.m. March 22 and 8 a.m.-noon at the County Maintenance Facility across from LaRue County High School. No early birds. Easter egg hunt at Fairgrounds
The LaRue County Fairgrounds on Greensburg Street, Hodgenville, will have an Easter egg hunt at noon on March 23. Games, prizes, children’s movie available. Seed and feed bags wanted
Empty seed or feed bags are wanted by Extension Nifty Needles sewing group. They will use the bags to make waterproof tote bags for the homeless. Bring bags to the Extension office on Open Sew Day, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 25. For more information, call Master Clothing Volunteer Rosa Smith at 358-9049.
