 Poinsettia drawing at library

The LaRue County Public Library is holding a reading incentive during December by giving away a poinsettia each week. For every book you read, you can complete a ticket to have your name put in for the drawing. The more books you read, the more chances you have for winning. Drawings will be held each Friday.  

 

Hardin & LaRue Diabetes Coalition to meet

The Hardin & LaRue Diabetes Coalition will meet 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Lincoln Trail District Health Department, 108 New Glendale Road, Elizabethtown. It is open to anyone with interest in early diagnosis, reduction of complications, prevention and elimination of diabetes. Coping with grief through the holidays

The heaviness of grief can feel more painful during the holidays. Attend a special free gathering at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 led by a Hospice of Nelson County social worker and chaplain who will offer support and coping skills. The location is the Hospice office at 202 W. Stephen Foster, Suite A (behind Medica Pharmacy). To register, call 350-5570.

 

Compassionate Friends candle lighting

The Central Kentucky Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will have a candlelight service 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Kid-Wise Building (adjacent to Miller Park), 195 City Park Road, Campbellsville for parents who have lost children. There will be a memory table, readings and reading of children’s names. Parents can bring mementos to share and an ornament for the memorial tree in Miller Park. Blood drive at Woman’s Club

The Hodgenville Woman’s Club will host a blood drive noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Clubhouse on Lincoln Square. All blood types are needed. The procedure takes about an hour. Bring an ID card.

 

Serger class

Master Clothing Volunteer Rosa Smith will offer serger sewing machine classes at 10 a.m. on Dec. 10 at the LaRue County Extension Office. For more information, call Smith at 358-9049.

 

Dinky’s Christmas Show

Dinky Gowen’s annual kid’s Christmas party and magic show is 3-5 p.m. Dec. 16 at LaRue County Park and Recreation. Lots of magic, costumed characters and Elvis presenter Caleb Brown. No charge to attend.

 

FREE CLASS: Managing meals

Have you been told you have diabetes, need to lose weight or just need to learn how to eat healthy? The program “Managing Your Meals” will be 1:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Lincoln Trail District Health Department, 108 New Glendale Road, Elizabethtown. The initial class will go over how to follow a meal plan and gather necessary information to develop a meal plan for each individual.

Registration is required by calling 270-769-1601, Ext. 1035.

Time and date are subject to change and group will not meet if Hardin or LaRue County Schools are closed for weather.

 

Santa’s Helpers

Snookie Morrison and Santa’s Helpers are collecting new and gently used toys  and batteries for the 46th annual Santa Run on Dec. 24. Donations are accepted at Santa’s Workshop, 760 Salem Lake Road, Hodgenville, or one of the volunteers will pick up the items. 

Donation boxes are available at LaRue County Chamber of Commerce, Dollar General Store, Lincoln National Bank (Parkway and Main offices) and both offices of Buffalo Bank. For more information or to volunteer, call Ann “Snookie” Morrison at 234-3313.

 

Extension Office closed for holiday

The LaRue County Extension Office will be closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 1; and Jan. 21.

 

FREE MOVIE NIGHT: Joyful Noise

“Joyful Noise” will be shown 7 p.m. Dec. 29 at the Hodgenville Civic Center. No charge to attend. Popcorn and drinks provided.
