The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce will be closed through Dec. 30 for the holidays.


Courthouse holiday schedule

The LaRue County Courthouse will close Dec. 30-Jan. 2 for the holidays. 


Extension Office holiday schedule

The LaRue County Extension Office will close through Jan. 2 for the holidays and Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.


Early deadlines for holiday

The LaRue County Herald News will close Jan. 2 for the holidays. Early deadline is noon, Dec. 30.


Post Office schedule

The post office will be closed Jan. 2. There will be no mail delivery.


Diabetes Coalition to meet

The Hardin & LaRue Diabetes Coalition will meet 6 p.m. Jan. 3 at the LaRue County Extension Office. It is open to anyone with interest in early diagnosis, reduction of complications, prevention and elimination of diabetes. The group will not meet if schools are closed due to weather. LaRue County Reads needs volunteers

Volunteer to tutor a child in reading for one-half hour each week at one of the local schools. Volunteers must attend a short training class. The next training will be 11 a.m. Jan. 6 at the Board of Education. Training will last about one hour.

LaRue County Fiscal Court will meet 9 a.m. Jan. 10.


FREE WORKSHOP: Starting a family childcare home

Community Coordinated Child Care will have a workshop “Starting a Family Childcare Home” for those interested in starting a certified family childcare home 4-5:30 p.m. Jan. 12. The workshop will be held at the 4-C office, 54  First St., Elizabethtown. Pre-register by Jan. 3 by calling Sandy Maldonado at 270-360-9911.


FREE WORKSHOP: Resume writing at library

The LaRue County Public Library will offer resume writing workshops 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Jan. 14 and Feb. 11. For more information, call the library at 358-3851.


LaRue County Diabetes Support Group

The LaRue County Diabetes Support Group will meet 6:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 in the rear meeting room of the LaRue County Extension Office. The topic is “Healthy Food Choices with Diabetes.” Registration is required by calling Melissa Conder at 769-1601 ext. 1035 or toll free at 1-800-280-1601 ext. 1035. The group will not meet if Hardin or LaRue county schools are closed for weather.


FREE CLASS: Managing meals

The program “Managing Your Meals” will be 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at the Lincoln Trail District Health Department. The initial class will go over how to follow a meal plan, and gather necessary information to develop a meal plan for each individual.

A follow-up class is 1:30-2:30 p.m. and reviews how each individual is doing with their meal plans and teach a new topic, including sticking to a meal plan, label reading, exercise and eating.

The classes and meal plans will be conducted by a registered dietitian or nurse depending on topic and availability. Registration is required by calling 270-769-1601, Ext. 1035.

Time and date are subject to change and group will not meet if Hardin or LaRue County Schools are closed for weather.


County Extension Council Leadership and Awards Banquet

The County Extension Council Leadership and Awards Banquet is 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Extension Office. Open to everyone. The meal is $6. Call 358-3401 for reservation or more information. Nominations for award of excellence for individual or group are due by Jan. 6.


Relay for Life captain meeting

The Relay for Life captain meeting is 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Hodgenville Elementary School. For more information on this meeting or Relay team questions, contact billhawkins@cancer.org.


Open Sew Day

The Nifty Needles sewing group will meet 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 30 for open sew day at the LaRue County Extension Office. After January, they will resume their regular fourth Monday of the month session. For more information, call 358-3401.


Magnolia Lions Club changes meeting place

The Magnolia Lions Club meets at Magnolia Fire Department meeting room 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month. For more information, call 270-537-4173.
