Poinsettia drawing at library
The LaRue County Public Library is holding a reading incentive during December by giving away a poinsettia each week. For every book you read, you can complete a ticket to have your name put in for the drawing. The more books you read, the more chances you have for winning. Drawings will be held each Friday.
FREE: Weight loss support group at Flaget
A weight loss support group will meet 10 a.m. Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Flaget Pain Management Center next to Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. The group is for those considering bariatric (weight loss) surgery, those who have had surgery and for family and friends. It is open to all patients, regardless of which hospital they chose for surgery. For information, call 502-350-5493.
Santa visits Morrison Lodge #76
Santa will visit with children between 2 and 5 p.m. Dec. 15 at Morrison Lodge #76, 125 N. Mulberry St., Elizabethtown (on the corner of N. Mulberry and Poplar Streets). Free photos with Santa and candy canes for children.
Dinky’s Magic Show and Christmas Party
Dinky Gowen’s annual kid’s Christmas party and magic show is 3-5 p.m. Dec. 16 at LaRue County Park and Recreation. Lots of magic, costumed characters and Elvis presenter Caleb Brown. No charge to attend.
Community Conversation with United Way
A “community conversation” with United Way of Central Kentucky, local organizations and residents will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the Lincoln Museum Community Room, 66 Lincoln Square, Hodgenville. RSVP to mbyers @unitedwayck.org or 270-737-6608.
PROGRAM: Managing meals
Have you been told you have diabetes, need to lose weight or just need to learn how to eat healthy? The program “Managing Your Meals” will be 1:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Lincoln Trail District Health Department, 108 New Glendale Road, Elizabethtown. The initial class will go over how to follow a meal plan and gather necessary information to develop a meal plan for each individual.

Time and date are subject to change and group will not meet if Hardin or LaRue County Schools are closed for weather.
Recycling Center closes for holidays
LaRue County’s Renaissance Recycling Center, 290 E. Water St., Hodgenville, will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Overflow trailers will be placed at the city parking lot for drop-offs.
Snookie Morrison and Santa’s Helpers are collecting new and gently used toys and batteries for the 46th annual Santa Run on Dec. 24. Donations are accepted at Santa’s Workshop, 760 Salem Lake Road, Hodgenville, or one of the volunteers will pick up the items.
Donation boxes are available at LaRue County Chamber of Commerce, Dollar General Store, Lincoln National Bank (Parkway and Main offices) and both offices of Buffalo Bank. For more information or to volunteer, call Ann “Snookie” Morrison at 234-3313.
Extension Office closed for holiday
The LaRue County Extension Office will be closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 1; and Jan. 21.

A serger class with Master Clothing Volunteer Rosa Smith will be 10 a.m. Jan. 14 at the LaRue County Extension Office. For more information, call Smith at 358-9049.
County Extension Council Leadership and Awards Banquet
The LaRue County Extension Council Leadership and Awards Banquet is 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Meal is $6; South Fork Homemakers will cater. Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture James Comer will speak. Call the Extension Office at 358-3401 to reserve a seat. Nominations for an individual or group for the annual Award of Excellence for leadership or community service must be turned in by Jan. 7.
