Shingles vaccine offered
The LaRue County Health Department offers shingle vaccines for $10 for ages 60-64 who do not have health insurance or if insurance plan does not cover the vaccine. Call 358-3844 for more information.

FREE MOVIE NIGHT: The Maltese Falcon
Free Movie Night, sponsored by the City of Hodgenville and The LaRue County Herald News, will be 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at Hodgenville Civic Center, 200 S. Lincoln Blvd. The movie will be “The Maltese Falcon.” There is no charge to attend and free popcorn is included.

Cruise in at Magnolia Mall

A classic car cruise in will be 5-8 p.m. Aug. 24 at Magnolia Mall.

Heartland Festival Got Talent

The United Way of Central Kentucky is seeking performing artists to compete in the United Way’s Got Talent competition at the Heartland Festival in Hardin County on Aug. 24. The performance will be 2-3:30 p.m. at Freeman Lake Bandstand.

There is no charge to enter. Contestants must be 14 or older. Ten to 12 acts will be selected. Prizes will be awarded.

Open Sew Day
Open Sew Day is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 26 at the LaRue County Extension office, 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville. The Nifty Needles group is meeting to work on tote bags for the homeless.

Book signing
Lenora Rodgers of Elizabethtown will hold a signing of her children’s book, “A Fairy Long Night,” 6-7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Hardin County Public Library, 100 Jim Owen Drive, Elizabethtown. She will give away two books. Terry C. Wise, illustrator of the book and editorial cartoonist of The LaRue County Herald News, will give away an illustration he created for the signing.

Extension District Board meets
The Extension District Board will meet at noon Aug. 27 at the LaRue County Extension office. Tax rates will be set at this meeting. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, contact the Extension office at 358-3401.

Hardin County Teen Court

Area high school students and parents are invited to an open house, mock trial and registration for Hardin County Teen Court 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Hardin County Justice Center, 120 East Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown. For more information, call coordinator Helen Jacobs at 317-7112.

Susan G. Komen Team Race for the Cure Team Captain Kick-Off
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure team captain kick-off event is 8-9 a.m. Aug. 29 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. A light breakfast will be available, along with information regarding breast cancer awareness and research. The Race for the Cure is Oct. 12. LaRue County Reads
Volunteer to tutor a child in reading for one-half hour each week at one of the local schools.

Volunteers must attend a short training class. The next training is 10 a.m. Aug. 30 or 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at the Board of Education. Training will last about one hour.

Mobile mammogram unit
The mobile mammogram unit from James Graham Brown Cancer Center will be at the LaRue County Extension office 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 3. Call 358-3401 for an appointment. Cost is $79 for those without insurance.
