Vietnam veterans invited to ride in parade
The Sonora Merchants will sponsor a float for the Heartland Festival Parade 10 a.m. Aug. 28. This year’s theme is “Thank you from the Heartland,” a salute to Vietnam veterans. If you are a Vietnam veteran and you would like to ride on the Sonora Merchants float, contact Claudia Thurman at 270-949-1880 by Aug. 21.
Extension District Board to meet
The Extension District Board will meet at noon Aug. 31 at the LaRue County Extension Service office. Tax rates will be set at this meeting. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, contact 4-H Extension Agent Misty Wilmoth at 358-3401.
Kentucky State Fair booth workers are needed. Contact LaRue County Chamber of Commerce at 358-3411 if interested in working one of three shifts each day. Two free admittance tickets will be provided to each shift. If a business or group wishes to provide workers for one entire day, a section of the chamber’s backdrop will be available for promoting their business or group.
Mobile Mammogram Unit
The mobile mammogram unit from Brown Cancer Center in Louisville will be at the Extension Service office 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 3. Call 358-3401 to schedule an appointment. Cost is $138.15 for those without insurance. Those with insurance should bring your card and the cost will be turned in to your insurance. For lower cost mammogram options, contact the LaRue County Health Department. The mobile unit has digital mammography equipment. This is co-sponsored by the County Extension Homemaker organization.
Main Street dinner and auction
The Hodgenville Main Street/Renaissance annual dinner, silent auction and concert will be Sept. 11 at the Civic Center. Auction viewing begins at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6, and concert at 7:30. Water's Edge will perform. The dinner will be catered by South Fork Homemakers. Tickets are available from the Main Street Office on the Square, the Chamber of Commerce or members of the Main Street Board of Directors. Dinner and concert is $20; concert only, $10.
