Extension memories wanted
Submit an Extension memory and get a chance to win $100. This year the national Cooperative Extension Service is celebrating its 100th year anniversary. If you have a favorite memory or story from some Extension-related experience such as Ag, Homemakers or 4-H, share it with the LaRue County Extension Office (270-358-3401). All who submit a memory will be eligible for a $100 prize which will be drawn on March 15 at the Extension Expo. Memories can be dropped off at the Extension office, 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, or emailed to marcy.ward@uky.edu.

AARP tax assistance
AARP tax assistance will be available 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 6 at the LaRue County Public Library. AARP volunteers are not trained to assist farmers or clergy.

Class: Alzheimer’s and Dementia
The LaRue County Extension office will host a free class: “The Basics: Memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease” 1-3 p.m. March 6. Sheroll Carby, community outreach coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association and Grace Craig, MSW, Lincoln Trail Area Agency on Aging, will speak. If there is enough interest, more classes could be scheduled.

Special School Board meeting
A special meeting of the LaRue County School Board will be 8 a.m. Thursday, March 6 at the board office conference room. The agenda items include consideration of mowing bid, pest control bid, seal and stripe bid and audit bid.

Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time changes at 2 a.m. March 9. Be prepared to “spring ahead” one hour.

ECTC hosts biomedical research lecture
J. Christopher States, Ph.D., Professor and Distinguished University Scholar and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, will make a presentation entitled “Biomedical Research at the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine,” at 5:30 p.m. March 11 in Room 212 of the Regional Postsecondary Center, Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. It is free and open to the public. The LEAF-STEM series is designed to increase awareness of careers and opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math among students and the general public.

ECTC Choristers Spring Variety Show
The Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Choristers will present their Spring Variety Show 7:30 p.m. March 11 in the Science Auditorium of the college. The charge is $4 to benefit the Choristers. The program will consist of choral spirituals and solos and ensembles in a variety of musical styles. There will be door prizes and refreshments. AARP Smart Driver class
AARP Smart Driver class will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 13 at the LaRue County Extension office. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Those age 55 or over completing the course are eligible for a discount on their auto insurance for a minimum of three years. Instructor is Bob Geiger. Register by calling 270-358-3401.

Extension Expo
The annual Extension Expo is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 15 in the LaRue County High School gym. Call the Extension office at 270-358-3401 for more information. No booth space is available.

Beginning Computer Classes
LaRue County Community Education is offering a Windows 8 beginning computer class. Learn the basics about a computer and especially how to use Windows 8. The class meets for two sessions at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 and Tuesday, March 25. The fee for the series is $25.
