Ruth Ball Mixson, 85, pioneer in the field of psychological testing for children with mental disabilities, educator and community activist, died March 17, 2010, at Frankfort Regional Hospital.

According to the State-Journal, Mixson grew up in Hodgenville. She moved to Frankfort in 1947 after completing her undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology at the University of Kentucky.

She was predeceased by her husband Ashley Mixson. She is survived by a son, Ashley “Tip” Mixson of Frankfort.

Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort handled the arrangements.

Donations in honor of the Ashley and Ruth Mixson Scholarship fund may be mailed to Sandra Crocket, Office of Development (Scholarships), External Relations, Kentucky State University, 400 E. Main St., Frankfort, KY 40601.
