COLUMN: January brings state ag meetings, events

 The 2013 Kentucky Fruit and Vegetable Conference and Trade Show will be Jan. 7-8 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lexington. The Conference features a trade show and a host of concurrent session topics related to fruit and vegetable production.

The UK Winter Wheat Meeting will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 in Hopkinsville. This meeting will feature several speakers discussing wheat production issues.

The American Forage and Grasslands Annual Conference will be Jan. 6-8 in Covington. The program will feature informative presentations on forages from researchers and producers.

The Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association annual convention is Jan. 10-12. Several activities are planned, including a burger contest, women’s program, regional meetings, trade show and silent auction. It will be held at the Lexington Convention Center in conjunction with the Burley Tobacco Growers Annual Convention.

Forums at the KCA annual meeting will be Friday, Jan. 11. The program will begin at 1 p.m. and will include discussions on challenges and opportunities in forages, pasture feeding beef opportunities and beef as a real health food.

The Kentucky Pork Producers Association Annual Meeting will be Jan. 18-19 in Bowling Green. This annual event also features interesting topics on swine production. There will also be various opportunities for informative topics and good food, fun and fellowship.

The 2013 Kentucky Commodity Conference will also be Jan. 18 at the Holiday Inn University Plaza in Bowling Green. Grain marketing outlook will be discussed. There will be annual meetings of the Corn Growers, Small Grain Growers and Soybean Growers Associations respectively. State grain yield contest winners will also be announced at the evening banquet.
