God gives many wonderful promises in his word. There is God’s promise of love (John 3:16), forgiveness (1 John 1:9), salvation (Ephesians 2:8), everlasting life (John 10:28), answered prayer (1 John 5:14-15), and many, many others – about 7,000 promises. Many of those promises guide and encourage us. While the world and circumstances may change, God’s word never changes.
One great promise God gives is found in Psalm 37:25. David said, “I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.”
David writes looking back on life and from his experience he sees how God has cared for him.
We may want to stop getting older, but there is nothing we can do about it. Life moves on and we find ourselves getting older. It’s a part of life. The outward man is perishing, but the inward man is being renewed daily. The body gets older, but the spirit should become more like Christ as we move one day closer to glory.
Every stage of life has its burdens and benefits, its blessings and burdens, its opportunities and obligations. David says God is with us all the way to the end. When David was young God was with him and helped him kill a giant. Later when David was older God helped him stabilize the kingdom and prepare to build the temple.
What a promise for a Christian believer. No matter how you may change, how life may change, God never changes and his promises never fail.
Turn your life over to Christ. Live for him each day and when you come to the end of your life on earth you can say with David, “I have been young, I have been old, but the Lord has never forsaken me.”
