Be still and know that I am God. Psalms 46:10

Noise pollution ... there is so much noise always around us: the TV/radio/computer blaring, the dishwasher whirring, the washing machine sloshing, telephones jingling, traffic blaring, lawn mowers roaring and a multitude of other sounds are heard during our daily lives.

Our world has become inundated with noisiness. It surrounds us in our homes, our vehicles, our workplace and in our leisure time.

Even when trying to enjoy lunch in a crowded restaurant, it is too noisy to carry on a conversation. It is impossible to talk about anything important, because you must shout across the table just to be heard over the too-loud background music and other clatter.

We rarely allow ourselves the pleasure of complete silence. Our senses are over stimulated daily. It has become a part of life.

But when our senses are continually assaulted by our noisy environment, we certainly cannot focus on the still, quiet voice of God. God has commanded us to be still. In silence, we can better hear the voice of God.

Be still so that you will know he is God. Be still that you may hear from God through the Holy Spirit. Be still that you may know God's will for your life.

Take the time today to turn off all noise pollution (or as much as possible) in your environment for just a little while. Savor the quiet. Pray and meditate on the glory and awesomeness of God.

Be still and know that he is God!
