Paul tells the Corinthian Christians, "Be an imitator of me as I am an imitator of Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). He was trying to give the people a visual example of how to live the Christian life but not putting himself on a pedestal saying that he was perfect and had arrived.
Paul realized that the greatest motivational principle in the world is a good example. In communication we are taught that 89 percent of what we learn is through the eyes.
