Last week, Clayton Homes announced the layoff of 90 employees at its Maryville, Tenn., plant, a move that comes on top of last month’s closure of plants in Hodgenville and Milton, Pa.
About 140 employees were affected by the Hodgenville closure.
Spokesman Chris Nicely said the layoffs at the Maryville headquarters are a result of the worsening economy, particularly in the housing industry. He said the affected employees worked in positions ranging from entry-level work to accounting and processing functions, and that severance and outplacement assistance will be provided.
