City takes steps toward wastewater project

 Hodgenville City Council voted Monday to accept a pair of bids for wastewater system rehabilitation and storm sewer improvement.

Insituform Technologies won the wastewater project with a bid of $609,960.40; Basham Construction won the storm sewer project with a bid of $347,000.

The projects include water main and sewer line improvements in Hodgenville.

The bids were reviewed by GRW, an engineering consulting firm.

A preconstruction meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Hodgenville City Hall. Representatives from the City, GRE and bidding companies will be present. The public is invited.

In other business:

Fire Chief Wally Sparks reported two runs in January: a trash can on fire on Phillips Lane and smoke inside a house caused by a clogged furnace filter.

Police Chief Steve Johnson said he is taking classes to be a Taser instructor. After he completes a two-day course later this month, he will be able to conduct classes and recertify other officers in use of a Taser.
