The LaRue County High School cheerleaders finished fifth in the KAPOS State-At-Large Cheerleading Competition Saturday.
The event, featuring regional champions from across the state, was held on the campus of Western Kentucky University. The LCHS cheerleaders competed in the large division.
Coach Tara Wooden called it a “great accomplishment for the program” and the “highest placement since 2000.”
“We competed in a tough division that included Dunbar (national champion), Henry Clay (fourth in nation) and Daviess County (national semi-finalist).”
The squad finished sixth last year.
The only other top five placement was the 2000 squad who finished third in girls’ varsity co-ed. The 2001 squad also placed sixth in girls’ varsity co-ed.
