A Hodgenville man is facing charges after he allegedly took a jar containing money for a sick child from a local business.
Witnesses told police that Layton Lee, 19, of Harmony Court, entered IGA Express on Lincoln Boulevard about 8:22 p.m. Dec. 22. He covered his face with a red bandana before snatching the donation jar, according to police reports. He allegedly hopped on a bicycle and rode away.
Officers located the empty jar near a dumpster on Miami Court. It had held about $80, according to Hodgenville City Police. Most of the money was recovered.
Charges against Lee are pending in LaRue District Court, said Hodgenville Police Chief Steve Johnson.
Officers said Layton Lee is related to Tyrone Lee, who pleaded guilty to taking a donation jar earmarked for the same sick child in May from IGA Express. Tyrone Lee was ordered to serve 90 days in jail after he broke probation in that case.
