Slow start, late 'dry spell' doom boys' varsity

By Ben Sheroan

Falling behind 9-0 at the outset, LaRue County's boys' basketball team lost Friday for only the third time this season. The Hawks dropped a 53-44 decision at Central Hardin.

LaRue was scoreless until 2:35 left in the first quarter but managed to pull within three at 11-8 by the quarter's end. The same margin existed at halftime at Central led 25-22.

The Hawks took the lead for the first time early in the fourth quarter. Back-to-back baskets by Lorenzo Brewer and Tyler Hornback gave LaRue a 40-39 lead with 6:40 left in the game. The lead held for 90 seconds but shooting problems that Coach Paul Childress described as a "dry spell" doomed the Hawks.

LaRue stands at 15-3 on the season.

The Hawks play Tuesday at North Bullitt. The next home games are Friday against Elizabethtown and Feb. 3 against Meade County.
