Abraham Lincoln Elementary School selected two employees for the May Lincoln Presidential Cabinet awards.
D.J. Canter is the certified employee and Machelle Durham represents the classified employees.
Canter, a third grade teacher, has a true teacher’s heart. She works hard to get to know her students and families and in return they know what she expects from them both personally and academically.
If a student needs extra tutoring after school, she is always willing to meet that student’s needs. One of her strongest areas is her daily use of status of the class during DEAR Time (Drop Everything and Read) where she conferences with individual students about what they are reading. She comes to school well prepared for her classes and is a wealth of knowledge in almost every subject area.
Durham, ALES Family Resource Co-coordinator, spends many hours working with families to remove barriers to children’s learning. She makes countless home visits and families know that she can be trusted to assist them. She is on call everyday and shows a “whatever it take” attitude as she works with teachers, students, and parents.
Each month, two employees of ALES are nominated by their peers for the Lincoln Presidential Cabinet. They receive various gifts and recognition from area businesses, the school’s PTO, and several anonymous givers.
