The 2012 LaRue County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP) has been funded for $135,000.

This is the fourth year LaRue County CAIP has been offered by the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy and the County Agricultural Development Council.  The program applicant is the LaRue County Beef Cattle Association. The grant administrator is Dyan Puckett (270-537-3889).

Grant guidelines and grant applications will be available at the Extension Office Sept. 12-28. The deadline for returning grant applications is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28.

Applications will be scored by a committee of the beef association, based on a producer application and a scoring point grid provided by GOAP. Approximately the 65 highest scoring applications will be funded. While all applications must be turned in during the required application period, there is no first-come, first-served consideration.

Producers will be notified by mail when the applications have been scored, after which approved projects must be completed and all necessary paperwork submitted for reimbursement by July 31, 2013. Earlier submission of receipts is encouraged.

Project expenses are eligible for reimbursement retroactive to Feb. 20, 2012. Therefore, the program allows for projects covering more than a 17-month period (Feb. 20, 2012 to July 31, 2013).

Applicants who receive more than $600 will be supplied an IRS form 1099 that will list the amount of cost share received. There is a $2,000 per applicant maximum.

The program is part of the Tobacco Phase 1 Grant Programs associated with the 2000 Federal Tobacco Settlement Agreement. Additional details of the program will be discussed in next week’s column.

A program advertisement is in the Aug. 29 and Sept. 5 issues of The LaRue County Herald News.
