Bessie Catherine Sprowls Underwood, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012.
She was a lifelong member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Buffalo, a farmer and homemaker. She was born Feb. 23, 1918, the daughter of the late Lewis and Lula Alice Skaggs Sprowls.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Bruce Earl Underwood; two brothers, Ernest Sprowls and Willie C. “Bill” Sprowls; four sisters, Alva Perkins, Gladys Thompson, Oma Elsie Loyall and Dorothy Loyall.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald “Ronnie” (Shirley) Underwood of Mount Sherman, Tony Earl Underwood and Darrell Underwood, both of Buffalo; seven daughters, Joyce Underwood of Campbellsville, Mary Katherine “Kay” Ehlers and Wilma Sims, both of Louisville, Barbara (John) Williams of Central City, Sandra Underwood of Lexington, Pamela (Robert) Mardiney of Balwin, Md., and Janet Karnes of Buffalo; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary LaVerne Abell and Aline Thompson, both of Hodgenville.
The funeral for Bessie Catherine Sprowls Underwood will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, in the chapel of Rust-Wright Funeral Home, 612 N. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville, with Rev. Roger Pepper and Rev. Barry Fields officiating. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery in Buffalo.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 19 and 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at Rust-Wright Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be given to Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
