The LaRue County Hawks ended spring break with a 1-3 record, losing games to Glasgow (2-5); Reynoldsberg, Ohio (0-13); and Bellbrook, Ohio (9-12) at the Florida Beach Bash in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
“Overall we had a good week,” said head coach Eric Allen. “We got better as a team and played a lot better although our record doesn’t show it. We played some good teams tough and were just a couple of plays away from being 3-1 instead of 1-3. It was good to get away with just the team and enjoy great weather and the beach. We have been steadily progressing since the beginning of the season and it’s time for this young team to start coming together and playing well on a consistent basis. That’s our next step.”
Their win came at the expense of Brookville, Ohio (13-5) on April 4.
Senior Cole Hughes had the win for the team, striking out 12.
Austin McDowell, Cameron Dawson, Austin Hinton and Hughes had two hits each.
The Hawks host Nelson County at 4:30 p.m. April 10. The team plays at Marion County at 5:30 p.m. April 12.
