BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks win two in tourney

 The Lady Hawks defeated East Carter’s Lady Raiders Dec. 23 in overtime in the final game of the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.

Junior center Alley Evans made a putback with less than 9 seconds left in overtime to put the Lady Hawks over the top.

Evans just missed a double-double (nine points, 10 rebounds), while junior wing Ivy Brown had 17 points, four assists, four blocks and four steals. Sophomore guard Alexis Brewer chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Senior forward Haley Holt scored five points; Skakeya Washington scored three.

Two losses

The Lady Hawks lost two games in the tournament before the overtime win.

They dropped 46-37 to Louisville Assumption despite having the lead 18-to-16 at halftime.

Brown led LaRue County with 15 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Brewer added nine points and two steals.

Holt scored eight points, hitting one of three 3-point attempts.

Evans scored three and had six rebounds. Senior forward Alisha Durbin scored two.

Anderson

The Lady Hawks dropped to Anderson County 63-54 in quarterfinals.

Brown had 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, but the Lady Hawks couldn’t dig themselves out of a 16-point halftime deficit.

Brewer added 15 points, nine rebounds and two assists, while Evans scored eight points.

Holt scored four points, hitting one of two 3-point attempts; Durbin scored two.

LaRue County made more free throws (18) than field goals (16).

Campbell

The Lady Hawks defeated Campbell County 63-53 in the first round of the tournament.

Brown scored a game-high 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. She also had six steals and three assists. Brewer chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Evans had eight points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Durbin had six points, three steals and two assists.

Holt chipped in three points and had three steals. Miranda Hornback scored two.
