BASKETBALL: Hawks compete in Holiday Classic

 The LaRue County High School Hawks spent part of their winter break competing in the Kentucky Fried Chicken Holiday Classic at McCreary Central.


Senior Kyle Sheeran scored 21 points and junior Kelton Ford had 17 as the Hawks (6-0) rallied to knock off the Patriots Dec. 20.

LaRue County outscored Lincoln County, 26-15 in the fourth quarter.

Sheeran also had six rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Ford had six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Senior Kyle Meredith chipped in with 12 points, hitting two of five 3-point attempts, and a steal; and sophomore Tyler Howell scored eight. Kody Key had four; Gabe Shirley had three.


The Hawks lost for the first time this season Dec. 21 to East Jessamine. The team fell into a big hole in the first quarter, falling behind 20-9 as they lost in the second round of the KFC Holiday Classic at McCreary Central.

Sheeran, who hit five 3-pointers, paced LaRue County with 25 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Ford added 17 points, five assists, two steals and two rebounds.

Howell added 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Key had nine points, including a 3-pointer; Meredith and Shirley had six each.

BELL COUNTY 45, LARUE COUNTY 43. The Hawks struggled from the field and from the 3-point line as they lost their second straight game Dec. 22 in the KFC Holiday Classic.

Ford paced LaRue County with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Key added 12 points, three rebounds and one assist.

Sheeran was limited to nine points, five rebounds and four steals. Shirley had two.
