The LaRue County Hawks baseball team fell 3-2 to Green County April 19.

The visiting Dragons scored the winning run in the seventh and held off the Hawks in the bottom of the inning, snapping LaRue County’s five-game winning streak.

Junior Slade Owens took the loss, allowing 10 hits and two earned runs in seven innings. He struck out one.

Sophomore Cole Hughes had an RBI single and Owens doubled for LaRue County’s only hits.

Junior Wesley Kessinger took a no-hit bid into the seventh and the visiting LaRue County Hawks scored five runs in the seventh to pull away from 18th District rival Hart County for a 7-0 win April 21.

Kessinger struck out eight and allowed two hits – both singles – and three walks in the complete-game effort.

“He had a good performance. He threw really well,” said LaRue County coach Chris Price. “He was hitting his spots and kept the ball down. He’s throwing the ball with a lot of confidence right now.”

Owens had an RBI double for the Hawks. Junior Kyle Sheeran had a single, an RBI, a run and two stolen bases, while junior Kyle Meredith added two singles and a run.

Meredith hit a solo home run to lead the visiting LaRue County Hawks to a 7-5 win over 18th District rival Green County April 29.

Meredith also doubled, drove in two runs, scored twice and stole a base.

The Hawks moved one step closer to locking up the top seed for the upcoming district tournament, but the win didn’t come without some late-game drama.

Kessinger ran into some trouble in the bottom of the seventh, allowing four runs without recording an out as the Dragons cut the led to 7-5. LaRue County coach Chris Price turned to junior Trevor Skaggs, who struck out two to preserve the win.

Skaggs singled and scored twice, while junior Slade Owens scored two runs and stole a base.
