BASEBALL: Hawks defeat Nelson, Green, John Hardin

The Hawks won three games last week, overpowering Nelson County 7-1 on April 17 and edging Green County  (5-4) April 19 and John Hardin (5-4) April 20.
Senior Slade Owens had two doubles, three RBIs and scored twice to lead the homestanding Hawks past 5th Region foe Nelson County.
Senior Wesley Kessinger, who got the win, helped himself out with an RBI double. He gave up three hits and struck out two in five innings.
Senior David Masure had what proved to be the game-winning hit in the top of the sixth as the Hawks rallied past 18th District rival Green County.
LaRue County trailed 3-0 when it scored five runs in the sixth.
Junior right-hander Cole Hughes won his fifth decision of the season. Hughes struck out six, while allowing six hits, two earned runs and two walks in six innings. He also had three hits, including a double.
Senior Kyle Sheeran doubled and scored a run, while Owens and senior Wesley Kessinger each singled, drove in a run and scored.
Sheeran stole home to score the winning run as the Hawks defeated John Hardin for their fifth straight win.
The Hawks scored three runs on two hits and three errors in the top of the first and once on a wild pitch in the second.
