A Bardstown man was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Bardstown Road near Ovesen Heights Monday afternoon.

According to Kentucky State Trooper Terry L. Whittaker, a box truck driven by Nathan M. Clater, 36, of Upton, was traveling south on U.S. 31E about 3:40 p.m. The truck dropped off the right side of the roadway and the driver overcorrected his steering. The truck crossed the centerline while overturning.

The box truck overturned on a 2001 Dodge Neon driven by Damon R. Sonne, 34, of Bardstown. Sonne was driving north and steered his 2001 Dodge Neon into the ditch on the east side of the roadway, attempting to avoid the collision.

Sonne was extricated from the wreckage by LaRue County Rescue. He died of massive head injuries, according to Deputy Coroner Brad Turner. His body was taken to Louisville for an autopsy.

Clater suffered minor injuries, according to KSP, and was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by LaRue County EMS.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Sonne was an employee of Konsei in Hodgenville. Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown is in charge of arrangements.
